Tiritiri Matangi, the rescue island for many New Zealand endemic species, is the best place to tick the two rare families: Wattlebirds and the monotype Stitchbird. The other four endemic families can bee seen easier while travelling.
Wattlebirds: North Island Saddleback & North Island Kokako at Tiritiri Matangi. South Island Saddleback at Ulva Island and Motuara Island.
Whiteheads family first member seen first in Tiritiri Matangi as well (Whitehead). Yellowhead at Ulva Island and PIpipi in several places in South Island.
New Zealand Wrens: Rifleman at Arthur Pass, South Island Wren at Homer Tunnel.
New Zealand Parrots: Kea at Arthur Pass and other places around, New Zealand Kaka in both islands.
Kiwis: Okarito Brown Kiwi at Okarito, Southern Brown Kiwi at Stewart Island, Northern Brown Kiwi heard only at Aroha Island
